Formats & storage
Formats that last
Recordings are kept in common, open formats so they can still be played many years from now.
- Video: MP4 (H.264 or H.265) — plays almost everywhere.
- Audio: M4A (AAC) or MP3 for everyday notes, FLAC when quality matters.
- Photos attached to entries: JPEG or HEIC.
- File names start with the date (YYYY-MM-DD) so the archive sorts itself.
- Large originals are kept; previews are generated separately.
